The Board of Trustees of Worthington Libraries welcomed David Goldberger as the library's newest board member at its annual organizational meeting held on January 21 at Northwest Library.
Mr. Goldberger was sworn in to serve a term of seven years and fills the board seat left vacant by Jeff Lyttle, who left the board in December after completion of a seven-year term.
Mr. Goldberger is a Professor of Law at The Ohio State University Moritz College of Law. He received a B.A. from the University of Chicago and a J.D. from the University of Chicago Law School. He has written numerous publications and articles which have appeared in the Harvard Journal on Legislation, The Ohio State University Law Journal and the Cleveland Plain Dealer. Mr. Goldberger's research and writing focus on the free speech decisions of the U.S. Supreme Court, and he continues to litigate civil liberties cases on behalf of clients unable to afford counsel. He has been a Worthington resident for more than 20 years.
In his application to serve on the board, Mr. Goldberger wrote, "The public library is one of the most important community institutions in our democracy. It assures that citizens have ready, affordable access to learning, literature and the arts."
In addition to David Goldberger, Worthington Libraries is served by board members Janet Brown (president), Lynn Nadler (vice president), Daniel Lacey (secretary), Anne Doyle, James Hill and Martin Jenkins. The Board meets regularly once per month and holds committee meetings as needed throughout the year. All meetings of the Worthington Libraries Board of Trustees are open to the public.
