As an institution dedicated to encouraging lifelong learning among its patrons, Worthington Libraries is excited about the popularity of the English Conversation Group. Adult English language learners are encouraged to bring a friend, and come prepared to meet new ones!

English Conversation GroupThe winter session is winding down— meetings are planned on February 16 and February 23 at 3:30 pm at Northwest Library— but another session will start on March 9 and continue for 12 weeks. Class meetings are scheduled from 3:30-4:30 pm on Tuesdays, March 9 - May 25. No registration is required to attend.

Each class will be coordinated and supervised by a librarian, and aimed at people with basic English skills who want to practice their conversational abilities and English pronunciation with the help of a native speaker.

Census figures show that over 15 percent of the population in the library's service district (which is the same as the school district) was born outside the United States, and that number continues to increase.

More than 12 percent of district residents speak a language other than English in the home, according to census statistics. Many of our newest immigrants speak Japanese, Chinese, Korean and Spanish, in addition to Russian, Arabic and numerous South Asian languages.
