Worthington Libraries to host PBS star

Wes Cowan, star of the PBS television show "History Detectives" and owner of Cowan's Auctions in Cincinnati, will visit Worthington Libraries in April to share his adventures and expertise during two exciting events.

    Wes CowanOn April 16, Wes will headline the Friends Foundation of Worthington Libraries program, "Discovering the Past Through Objects: Adventures of a Real-Life History Detective."

    During the program, which starts at 7 pm at Old Worthington Library, Wes will offer his unique perspective on the evolving role of archival institutions and the role they play in maintaining historical records. He'll also share his own adventures.

    Tickets are $10 for Friends members and $20 for non-members (non-members can qualify for the discounted price by joining the organization), and are now on sale at Worthington Hardware, 661 High St.

  • What's it Worth? An Appraisal Event

    On April 17, Wes and a team of experts from Cowan's Auctions will conduct free appraisals of your antiques and collectibles from 10 am-4 pm at Old Worthington Library.

    Appraisals will focus on historical Americana, early photography, decorative arts, paintings, sculpture and works on paper. Items must be easily carried by hand. No stamps, coins, fine jewelry or weapons of any kind will be appraised.

    Conservators from Old World Restorations, Inc. will also be on hand to inspect damaged and/or deteriorated art and antiques, and offer restoration advice.

    To attend, you must pick up a ticket for each item you would like appraised (limit is two tickets per person) prior to the event. Tickets for specific timeslots (10am, 2pm, etc.) will be available at Old Worthington Library beginning April 1.
