The Worthington Libraries Board of Trustees voted on June 15, 2010 to approve the appointment of Chuck Gibson as library director.
Mr. Gibson will succeed Meribah Mansfield, who will retire on July 23.
Mr. Gibson is familiar with both Worthington Libraries and the Worthington community. He served as the associate director of public services at Worthington Libraries from 2002-2007. Prior to that, he was the library's technology coordinator (1995-2002).
While at Worthington Libraries, he worked extensively with community leaders and served on the board of the Worthington Area Chamber of Commerce. Mr. Gibson also played an active role in the development of both Northwest Library and Worthington Park Library.
Since 2007, Mr. Gibson has served as director of the South Georgia Regional Library System (SGRL) in Valdosta, GA. In that position, he is responsible for overseeing library operations in six facilities located throughout three counties. Since Mr. Gibson began as director, circulation at the SGRL has increased more than 50 percent.
Library board president Lynn Nadler stated:
We're pleased to announce Chuck Gibson as the new director of Worthington Libraries. His knowledge of the community and of the library itself is a tremendous asset. His financial management skills and leadership abilities, coupled with his love of both traditional library service and new technology, is the right combination for Worthington Libraries.
Mr. Gibson is slated to begin as director of Worthington Libraries in August. The library board also appointed Margaret Doone as the library's fiscal officer at the June 15 board meeting.
A community reception to honor Meribah Mansfield is planned from 3-6pm on Friday, July 23 at the Old Worthington Library, 820 High Street.
