Need something to read during the dog days of summer?
Need something to read while waiting for your reserved copy of The Girl with the Dragon Tattoo to come in?
Try NoveList, a database designed to help you find titles or authors similar to ones you already enjoy.
Start at the left sidebar to browse recommended reads for adults, teens, middle-schoolers and young readers in a variety of fiction and nonfiction genres.
Search for recommendations by entering authors, titles, series titles, characters or keywords to describe a plot. Once you've found a book you like, you can read reviews, find series information and link to information about the author and a complete list of the author's titles. To find your next read, check out "NoveList Also Recommends" in the right sidebar for author read-alikes.
The "Search for More" feature allows you to tailor your own search. You can find similar titles based on genre, subject, setting and a variety of appeal factors such as storyline, tone, pace or writing style. For instance, if you're looking for something like The Girl with the Dragon Tattoo, you can find more mystery stories featuring hackers told in a gritty style, like The Empress File, or you can find Swedish fiction about missing persons, like The Cruel Stars of the Night.
Younger readers can try NoveList K-8 to find age-appropriate books for pleasure reading as well as school assignments. NoveList K-8 includes fiction and nonfiction book titles and has many added features such as "Recommended Reads" book lists, first chapter excerpts, Lexile scores and popularity ratings.
