From movies and music to colleges and companies, it's the time of the year when a number of "best of" lists are published. Want to know what we thought were some of the best books of 2013? Read on!

Staff Picks are staff-written book reviews that appear twice a week on the library's website. These starred reviews feature books for all ages, from kids through adults. Visit our Staff Faves - 2013 list to see what we consider recommended reading this year.

Exclamation Mark and Unicorn Thinks He's Pretty Great will have little book lovers in stitches while they learn about issues like friendship and self-esteem.

Older kids will enjoy reading about characters their age finding their way in Destiny, Rewritten and Navigating Early. Those who like their stories steeped in creep should definitely check out Doll Bones; read it with the lights on!

Teen readers in the mood for a good scare will love Charm & Strange, Shadowlands or Teeth. For fans of boarding schools books, there's Etiquette and Espionage or Winger. We recommend All Our Yesterdays for anyone interested in a five-star time-travel tale.

The Shining Girls, for adult readers, combines time travel and suspense as a Depression-era drifter uses a portal he has found to kill women. Other thrillers that made this year's best-of list include The Husband's Secret and The Wicked Girls. Nonfiction recommendations offer both life advice (Adulting and Decisive) and hope (Saturday Night Widows).

If you'd like to see Staff Picks throughout the year, check our website on Tuesdays and Fridays, or subscribe via RSS feed and you don't have to worry about missing a single pick!
