In brief
When your past is full of pain-- for you and everyone around you-- how far into history do you dig?
I was forced to wait much much too long for this book-- but it was worth the wait. Never mind that it has been four years since I read Graceling (the first book in this series) and three since I read Fire, the realms Cashore created came flooding back to me. I hurt with Bitterblue and hurt for what her father, Leck, did and the pain he caused during his rule.
This is ultimately a healing novel, but healing is rarely easy and this is not an easy read. It's a story that is both heartbreaking and wonderful. High fantasy with an extremely personal twist.
