The One and Only Ivan tugs at the heartstrings in a way that only a true story can.
The One and Only Ivan is based on the true story of a gorilla that lived at a shopping mall in a small cage by himself for 27 years. What should be a sad story turns into a truly heartwarming story. Things start out a little slow, but by the end I was racing to see what would happen to Ivan and his little elephant friend, Ruby.
Things I liked:
* Little dog Bob
* Art makes Ivan a better gorilla
* There is a hint of cancer story, but Applegate didn't need to follow that storyline, so she didn't.
* This story has a great ending, just like the real Ivan's story. It will bring a tear to your eye.
I work in Youth Services, and like to read all kinds of books, although nonfiction is not my favorite. I spend a good portion of my time rooting for the Reds with my basset hound sleeping in my lap. I have been known to ride my scooter, watch Tim Burton movies and sing silly songs.
