My heart was racing, I could not read this fast enough! I absolutely loved every minute of it.
Emma wakes up in a hospital with no memory. She is told she was in an accident, but no one will explain what happened. Her powerful and wealthy husband, Declan, visits her each day providing her with memories of a life she cannot remember. She seems to have the perfect life with the perfect husband, however, her strange dreams of another life and another man contradict Declan's stories. And then there's the woman's voice in her head that tells her to lie to Declan. Emma isn't sure who she should trust, but one thing is certain: things are not as they seem, and she is determined to find the truth.
This novel is a little bit dystopia, a little bit science fiction, a little bit romance and whole lot of awesome! Set in a very near future where fertile women-- a rare commodity-- are trained to be good wives, this is a well-written and fast-paced novel that plunges heart-first into themes of women's rights and fertility. M.D. Waters grabs you from page one with Emma's story and does not let go. Ever. So much suspense with the plot twists, and for me to go into all the layers would give too much of the story away. Just read this one, trust me! (Readers tip: make sure you start this on a day when you have nothing planned because you will *need* to finish it.)
Archetype is the first novel in a two-part series by a debut author who really made her mark! This is getting a lot of librarian love, and a ton of five-star reviews on Goodreads. I seriously cannot wait for the follow-up, Prototype, which is due out in July 2014. Only five months away!!! Squee!
I am the adult services materials selector for Worthington Libraries. When I'm not chasing after my two boys, I like to sew, read and collect recipes (but don't be fooled, I never make any of them!).
