Job Help Day @ Your Library

Whether it's resume writing help, access to classifieds, industry and company information or acquiring new skills, job hunters have always been able to rely on the free resources of their local library. In today's economy, these resources are more in demand than ever.

To meet this demand, and provide additional support for local job seekers, unique sessions have been planned at each Worthington Libraries location.

Old Worthington Library's programs include:


  • Acing Your Interview
    10-11 am
    Ace your job interview with help from Chandra Bell, a counselor at Columbus State Community College. She'll explain how you can make a great impression, including tips on dressing right, ways to think about commonly asked interview questions and how to let your experience shine through.
  • 1 on 1: Resume Help from a Career Advisor
    10-11:30 am
    A "speed review" of your resume will ensure that the first impression you make with a prospective employer is a good one! Get practical tips for developing a winning resume for any position from Jeff Robek, a career advisor in The Ohio State University's Career Exploration Office.
  • Striking Out on Your Own: Successful Entrepreneurs Share Their Stories
    11 am-noon
    If the current economy has you considering a more entrepreneurial career path, this session is for you. Small business owners from the Worthington Area Chamber of Commerce will share their knowledge and experiences as they discuss the challenges and rewards of "striking out on your own."
  • What's LinkedIn & How Can it Get You a Job?
    Noon-1 pm
    Social media and networking sites offer job seekers an entirely new set of tools— make sure you're maximizing them! This informative session will demonstrate the unique benefits of sites like Twitter and LinkedIn. Learn how building networks and establishing relationships can aid you in your job search.
  • 1 on 1: Online Applications
    Noon-1 pm
    Are you frustrated by hard-to-fill-out online job applications? Do you have trouble posting your resume to Monster.com or other employment web sites? Get personalized assistance from library staff during this session.
  • Using Business Buzzwords
    1-2 pm
    Want to add some polish to your resume, interview or online application? Marla Jones, of Your Professional Helper, will help you kick it up a notch. Becoming familiar with corporate terminology will help you get noticed, get an interview and get offers. Translation: use business buzzwords to get that job!
  • 1 on 1: Practice Interviews
    1-2 pm
    You've landed that big interview, now what? Practice makes perfect, so let an HR professional coach you through the do's and don'ts of interviewing. Learn how to make a great first impression, convey your professionalism and answer the toughest interview questions.
