International Literacy Day

The United Nations Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organization (UNESCO) established September 8 as International Literacy Day to promote literacy worldwide.

According to UNESCO statistics, approximately 796 million adults (nearly two-thirds of whom are women) lack minimum literacy skills. Globally, 67.4 million children are not in school and many more attend irregularly or drop out.

At Worthington Libraries, our mission is to encourage lifelong learning. From storytimes to the Summer Reading League to book discussions, we work hard to foster a love of reading in all ages.
