Hear & Now, a new series co-sponsored by the Library and the Peggy R. McConnell Arts Center, will bring emerging and established writers, like Claire Holden Rothman, to town.
After early training as a lawyer, Claire, a Montreal writer, taught college literature and creative writing at McGill University. Her short fiction has appeared in numerous literary periodicals and she has published two short story collections, Salad Days and Black Tulips.
The Heart Specialist, Rothman's debut novel about one of Montreal's first female doctors, has been called a "brilliant first novel" by Publishers Weekly. The book was long-listed for Canada's prestigious Scotiabank Giller Prize in 2009.
