During its regular meeting held on Monday, September 24, 2007, the Worthington School District Board of Education recognized "Meribah Mansfield and the staff of the Worthington Libraries for being named 2007 Gale/Library Journal Library of the Year."
Members of the library staff and the Board of Trustees gathered in the Worthington Education Center to receive the recognition, where School Board Vice President Jennifer made the presentation. As she called library staff members to come forward she observed, "It's always so nice when we invite the library, you get so many people! It's absolutely wonderful and I'm thrilled that they could be here and we have the chance to do this!"

The Worthington Libraries have long been known as an asset to our schools and our community. Recently that reputation expanded across the country when they were named as the recipient of the 2007 Gale/Library Journal Library of the Year.
The Library Journal described the creativity, excellence, quality service philosophy and dedication that led to this recognition. "The ties to the community it serves are a crucial legacy and a vital asset to the current Worthington Libraries. With great ingenuity, the staff at Worthington Libraries makes the most of that asset to serve patrons better.
After receiving the recognition, Library Board president Martin D. Jenkins stepped forward and acknowledged Best's role as library liaison between the School Board and the Library Board. He explained, "That's an important role and it has been supportive of our commitment and our strategic direction which says we will look for all kinds of ways to be collaborative with all the important institutions in the community and certainly the school district is primary among those." Jenkins continued, "We always look for ways to make a contribution—as the schools are making—to the quality of life in this community," acknowledging the efforts of the staff and introducing Library Director / Clerk-Treasurer Meribah Mansfield.
After introducing other members of the Library Board in attendance, Mansfield explained that the Library Journal article describing Worthington Libraries highlighted the collaboration among the library, the city, the schools, and the Chamber of Commerce, along with other community organizations. "Worthington is a stellar community. The collaboration makes the quality of life here outstanding," Mansfield observed. "It led to a national, prestigious award for the library, but it's really an award for Worthington." Mansfield concluded by acknowledging library staff and extending her thanks to members of the School Board: "We're looking forward to doing more terrific things together."
