Sing this lovely song with your child and help foster an interest in books by reading stories on the same subject.
As you sing this song with your child, incorporate the following hand gestures:
Twinkle, twinkle little star
Open and close hands like they are a twinkling star
How I wonder what you are.
Point to self and then point to the sky
Up above the world so high
Bring hands up above head
Like a diamond in the sky.
Bring hands together to form the top of a diamond
Twinkle, twinkle little star
Open and close hands
How I wonder what you are.
Point to self and then point to the sky
Help your child be ready to read by practicing early literacy skills. Kids who enjoy books will be more likely to want to know how to read when that time comes. You can help by:
- Asking a librarian to help you find books on a topic that your child likes.
- Putting books in your child's toy box. Having books in toy boxes helps kids have that positive association with books and reading and fun.
Activities for Babies or Toddlers: You might have heard that parents should read to their children 15 or 20 minutes a day but you don't have to read that amount at one time. You can read two minutes here and three minutes there. The important thing is to find a time and place that is enjoyable for both you and your child. Having a positive experience with reading is more important than having a 15 minute reading experience.
