Help your child with counting and his/her early literacy skills with this fun rhyme.

One, two, buckle my shoe
pretend to buckle shoe
Three, four, shut the door
pretend to shut door
Five, six, pick up sticks
pretend to pick up sticks
Seven, eight, lay them straight
use hands to smooth out sticks
Nine, ten, a big, fat hen
hold arms out to make a big circle

Help your child be ready to read by practicing early literacy skills.

You can help by:

  • You know your child's moods the best. Don't force reading or early literacy activities when he or she isn't receptive. Take advantage of the little moments throughout the day and make the experience fun!

Activities for Babies, Toddlers, and Preschoolers:

  • Try to keep your child's interest while reading by using voices, talking about experiences shared in the story, or asking questions.
  • Don't feel you have to finish a book in one sitting. If your child becomes restless or disinterested, finish the book at a later time.
