It's time to rock-and-roll— in a boat, that is. The repeating words found in this song will help improve your child's early literacy skills.

As you sing this song with your child, gently rock back and forth as if you are rowing a boat.

Row, row, row your boat
Gently down the stream.
Merrily, merrily, merrily , merrily
Life is but a dream.

Help your child be ready to read by practicing early literacy skills. When children know the names of things, they understand what they read and recognize words when they try to sound them out.

You help by:

  • Talking with your child
  • Repeating words over and over again
  • Explaining words your child does not know

Activities for Babies and Toddlers: Children learn news words by hearing them spoken and repeating them. Try to add new words when you speak to your child. Even describing their play will help increase their vocabulary.
