Presenting the winners of the 2008 Worthington Libraries Teen Poetry and Short Story Competition. Ryan Mitchell, the second place winner for middle school poetry, reads "Istanbul."

Triumphs and tragedies of a troubled past,
Haunt the streets of the city of the world's desire.
Countless minarets pierce the sky,
And domes float to the heavens.
Buildings of glass and steel,
Mix with buildings of antiquity.
Gypsies sell their wares in the bazaars,
Everything from gold, jewels, and veils to spices and crystal.
Palaces filled with terrible secrets,
Hidden under facades of grandeur.
