The Northwest Library is a cooperative project of the Worthington Libraries and the Columbus Metropolitan Library and is managed by the Worthington Libraries. The Northwest Library primarily serves the area between the Olentangy and Scioto rivers, extending from the Delaware County line south to Henderson Road.

History

In 1992, trustees from Columbus Metropolitan Library and Worthington Libraries began meeting regularly to explore ways to provide library service to the fast growing northwest area of Franklin County. On October 13, 1993, the two library boards signed a Joint Development Agreement for the Construction and Operation of a New Library Facility. Groundbreaking for the facility took place on September 13, 1994 and Opening Day was April 16, 1996. It is the first library in Ohio and only the second in the entire nation to be built and operated by two library systems.

Building and services

Northwest Library is a 23,000 sq. ft., single-level building, with public seating for 225, and parking spaces for 193 vehicles and 15 bicycles. It is accessible for persons with disabilities.

Settle back in the main reading room and take advantage of the beautiful and comfortable lounge furniture. Enjoy the abundance of natural light as you read a newspaper, periodical or a book from the many displays found nearby.

The children's area includes a space for story time and other programs called the Story Garden where children of all ages can enter the magical world of reading. The teen area offers a fun, funky space where teens can browse the teen collection and hang out.

Dozens of computers are available across the library, offering Internet access and use of Microsoft Office. We also offer free wireless access. Copying and printing are also available for a small fee.

Visit out our Job Help Center, where job seekers can get assistance from trained staff as well as special computer privileges during designated hours.

The Northwest Library has a large Meeting Room and a small Conference Room available for use by the public. A meeting room reservation form must be completed and approved before use can be scheduled.

The Northwest Library also has three study rooms and a tutor room. The study rooms are for quiet or group study and are available on a first come, first use basis. Each study room has a dry-erase board and seats 4-6 people comfortably. The tutor room is available for reservation by calling 614-807-2626 or in person. Tutors may reserve the room for no more than two hours at a time, two days a week and up to 90 days in advance. If the room has not been reserved, patrons may use it on a first come, first use basis.

We also offer a community bulletin board.
