Teacher collections

Library materials for use in school classrooms!

Worthington Libraries strives to support the mission and vision of individuals, schools and educators within the library's service district and hopes to enhance the education of students by providing teacher collections for classroom use.

Teacher collections may be requested by any certified public, private or parochial school teacher, or preschool or daycare instructor, with a valid Educator Card from the Discovery Place System (which includes Columbus Metropolitan Library, Southwest Public Libraries and Worthington Libraries).

The collection may be requested over the phone or in person at the children's desk.

The following guidelines are used in providing teacher collections:

  • A minimum of 14 days notice is required for the Library to compile a teacher collection.
  • A teacher collection can include a maximum of 30 items on a specific subject, by a particular author or a general collection of fiction and non-fiction. Only items that circulate for 28 days will be included.
  • Requests for specific titles will be accepted but not guaranteed. Teachers who request specific titles over the phone will be limited to four (4) such titles.
  • No requests for multiple copies of a specific title will be taken as a teacher collection.
  • "Hot Topic" subjects and holiday books will be limited to a maximum of five (5) items based on availability. Requests for seasonal books and books by visiting authors may be limited. Individual library locations reserve the right to determine other "hot topics" at their locations.
  • A teacher can request a maximum of two (2) teacher collections per month while not exceeding the limits of his/her Educator Card.
  • Teachers assume financial responsibility for any lost, damaged or overdue materials over and above the limits of the Educator Card.
  • Teachers may be charged a fee for library materials that have been defaced by marks, tape or stickers.
  • A pick-up date will be established when a teacher collection is requested. Teachers will not be notified when the collection is ready for pickup.
  • Collections will be held for three days past the established pick-up date. Failure to pick up a teacher collection twice during a school year will cancel teacher collection privileges for the remainder of the school year.
