Songs by Black artists will move you

As the great Stevie Wonder says in his 1976 song "Sir Duke," "Music is a world within itself / With a language we all understand." From jazz and swing to funk and soul to R&B and hip hop, American music would be nothing without the contributions of Black artists.

For Black History Month, we've assembled a Black music history playlist of songs by artists that namecheck their influences and pay tribute to legends of the past.

As Stevie says: "Music knows that it is and always will / Be one of the things that life just won't quit / But here are some of music's pioneers / That time will not allow us to forget.”
