The preamble of the Constitution appearing above the date July 4, 1776.

Starting June 8, stop by Old Worthington Library to see Declaration 1776: The Big Bang of Democracy, an exhibition from The Gilder Lehrman Institute of American History.

The exhibit features rare documents, paintings and first-hand accounts to illustrate how the Declaration of Independence played a vital role in shaping the United States and countless other countries. Visitors can learn how ideas forged in 1776 fueled abolitionist campaigns, the Civil Rights Movement, women’s suffrage and other global calls for independence.

Library displays will complement the exhibit and feature diverse voices often underrepresented in traditional discussions of American history.

Declaration 1776: The Big Bang of Democracy is part of the Worthington celebration of America 250 and will be on view through July 3.

I highly recommend checking out The New Rules of Cheese by Anne Saxelby from the Library for anyone wanting to learn more!
