Purpose
Under general supervision, the content strategist is solely responsible for developing creative copy for the library’s print communications and e-newsletter. The position works in close collaboration with the library’s graphic designer, social media coordinator and digital experience manager to develop original content across multiple communications channels, including the library’s website, Worthington Memory and social media platforms. The content strategist plays a primary role in developing the library’s brand identity and creates, from inception to execution, patron-focused marketing messages that amplify the library’s voice and build awareness of our collection, services and programs.
Essential Position Functions
- Working independently, solely creates marketing content for internal and external communication, including newsletter copy, e-newsletter copy, web/landing page copy and various promotional pieces
- Sees promotional projects through from conception to implementation and distribution
- Strategizes how and when to promote the library’s collection, services and programs
- Plays a key role in building and maintaining the library’s brand and organizational voice across multiple platforms and channels
- Coordinates the publication of news, features and information about library events, materials and services on the library website
- Creates and maintains content on the library website to ensure quality, relevance, accessibility and accuracy
- Writes, edits and proofreads copy for both print and online publication
- Coordinates and implements a quarterly publicity schedule
- Coordinates distribution of library information and publicity materials to the community
- Writes press releases and maintains good relationships with the media
- Prepares monthly publicity packet for the Board of Trustees
- Assists with the planning and coordination of library programs and special events
- Assists with the coordination and implementation of innovative marketing and public relations
- Attends programs, special events, meetings and serves on committees
Required experience
Education, Training and/or Experience
- Bachelor’s degree in marketing, public relations, journalism or related field
- A minimum of five (5) years of professional experience in marketing, public relations, or journalism
- Proficiency in the use of Adobe Creative Suite
Preferred Qualifications
- Familiarity with writing for accessibility and inclusivity
- Experiencing using Drupal or other content management system to create and publish web content
- Experience using Mailchimp or other email marketing tool to create and send e-newsletters
- Experience using an event management or calendar system to create and publish events
- Knowledge of Associated Press (AP) Stylebook
Knowledge, Skills, Abilities and Personal Characteristics
- Ability to maintain confidentiality and use appropriate judgment in handling information and records
- Ability to work accurately with attention to detail
- Ability to use correct grammar, punctuation, spelling and publication style
- Knowledge of desktop publishing, graphic design, and database management software
- Proficient in the use of Microsoft Office
Physical Demands
- Ability to sit and use computer for extended periods and operate standard office equipment, daily
- Ability to lift and move up to fifty (50) pounds, occasionally
- Travel by automobile is required occasionally
Working Conditions
- Majority of work performed in general office/library environment
- Requires evenings and/or weekends
- Requires periodic participation and attendance at events and training
